SOMETHING ABOUT US

Psychonomics is an applied behavioural science and research consultancy. We specialise in decision sciences that result in applied behavioural changes. We make use of the latest scientific advances in effecting nudges, working with biases, understanding heuristics, and shaping decision journeys. These are matters that are operationalised for clients seeking to engage with their consumer journeys more effectively, those who would like to alter employee behaviours (e.g. for improving safety), as well as those who want to increase the impact of social development projects.

We back all of our endeavours up with the ability to both research as well as monitor and evaluate (M&E). For any given project, we take up a data-driven approach and allow results to speak for themselves through both quantitative and qualitative M&E or through experimental designs. We also offer monitoring and evaluation as a standalone service to clients seeking to understand their own impact on a range of social and business topics. Examples range from enterprise development to the socio-economic impact of large industrial expansion and/or mining projects.

Psychonomics was founded by Sean Smith. Sean holds extensive experience in consumer psychology research and consulting, public relations research and consulting, social impact assessments, and numerous years in academia teaching, researching, and consulting within the behavioural sciences. Sean holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree in psychology. He followed with an honours degree in psychology and a master’s degree specialising in psychological research methods and methodologies. He then bridged his psychology and business backgrounds by endeavouring to pursue a postgraduate diploma in business administration, followed by a PhD in behavioural economics.

INSTRUMENTS

TEAM AND WORKPLACE DYNAMICS INVENTORY (TAWDI)

The TAWDI instrument is an assessment to help corporate teams work better together through a shared understanding of one another’s’ preferences and ideal working styles. It is unique in that it operates at both the individual and team levels simultaneously. This is a brief ten-minute assessment that can elicit powerful interpersonal understandings to assist us in working more efficiently and more harmoniously together. Results are unpacked by talented executive coaches, psychometrists and/or industrial psychologists.

GLOBAL EXECUTIVE DYNAMICS INVENTORY (GEDI)

GEDI is a specialised and tailored instrument targeted at senior management, executives, boards of directors, and other top-level teams. It was developed as a joint venture between Psychonomics and PsyQuenza. GEDI is an anonymous assessment that allows for transparency and authenticity towards understanding the true functionality of those top teams. Data is presented in such a way as to offer powerful insights into modes in which such teams can lead more effectively and operate optimally at the top of their organisations. Data and ensuing workshops are held under the tutelage of master coaches.

LEADERSHIP IMPACT ASSESSMENT (LIA)

LIA was developed through a joint venture between Psychonomics and BeClear Coaching. This assessment was built with the full knowledge that many large organisations have difficulty in growing their middle managers into senior level positions effectively. Hence, LIA was constructed based on 360 principles but with novel and never-before-seen constructs that speak to leadership potential and growth readiness of middle managers. We make use of the latest understandings in the behavioural sciences to effect discernible behavioural changes in consultation with our clients. We apply these for clients seeking to improve their customer experience, increase event attendance, make their brand stand out, or even alter how employees behave in the workplace.

MONITORING & EVALUATION

We monitor and evaluate all of our own endeavours for clients in order to reveal demonstrable impact of the work that is done. We also offer M&E, with a behavioural science edge to it, on a standalone basis for projects requiring thorough assessment.

This offering is applied to social development, economic development, and/or enterprise development projects. Finally, with a deep understanding of social science research approaches, we are able to offer in-depth research.

Our Services

SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH

With an in-depth understanding of social and behavioural sciences, we are able to offer an advanced research experience for clients seeking to understand social processes or consumer behaviour.

We largely (but not exclusively) make use of online panel samples in order to maximise turnaround time for clients. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches are available and are offered on a rigorous and boutique basis congruent with each client’s unique needs.
